♥ Lest We Forget
I write to remember and he is worth remembering.
Remembering Lee Kuan Yew
1923 - 2015
We mourned as a nation in the past week, and today, we bid our final farewell to Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
I've never met him personally, nor did I grow up under his leadership as the first Prime Minister of Singapore. In fact, I was born a year after he stepped down and handed the reigns over to Mr Goh.
In the days following his passing, I've learnt so much more about him through the all-round-the-clock programmes on tv. One thing I know, he contributed his life to building a nation, and we are reaping the benefits of his life's devotion.
On Tuesday after attending court, Abby and I crossed the road to the Parliament House where we saw condolences boards set up for the public to pen their condolences. Given that we were there a day before the lying-in-state, we avoided the crazy crowds that we now know, did not cease for the days that followed. The helpers at the boards passed us pens and a message card and we took that few minutes to pen our thanks and appreciation for all he has done.
As we made our way back to the office, we reflected on how he has contributed to this nation and we acknowledge that we now enjoy the fruits of his vision and persistence in the early days.
I stepped out of Raffles Place Mrt on Wednesday morning, and I saw many people stopped in their tracks, with eyes glued to the big screen TV at Chervon House watching the funeral procession from the Istana to Parliament House. I briskly made my way to the office, hoping to catch the live streaming from my desk. Unfortunately, due to heavy traffic on the website, I didn't. I did however, catch the video after work that night.
On that first day the public was allowed to pay their last repsects at the Parliament House, the queues snaked all the way to Raffles Place. We caught a portion of the queue from our offices. At lunch, we walked along the queue to see where it ended, and I was blown away by the number of people, young and old, queueing in the hot blazing afternoon sun.
My family and I went to pay our respects on Friday night. It was a pretty long way, but I'm glad we went.
In the days following LKY's passing, we have seen the people of this country come together. The volunteers and army personnel who worked tirelessly, around the clock to ensure that people in the tribute sites and in the queue to the Parliament House were well-taken care of, distributing water, food, fruits, umbrellas etc all round the clock. We've heard stories of how shops and companies have offered people drinks and seats while waiting in the hot sun.
I think I've seen the best of Singapore this week, and for that, I'm proud of my fellow countrymen.
And for your vision and tremendous foresight, for your leadership and immense love for this nation, for the many, many days and hours you've concerned yourself about our future; Thank you Mr Lee.

♥ Arrival Halls
Airports. I've had my fair share of crying at departure halls, leaving home and flying here alone for the first time. Arrival halls on the other hand, ah they make me tear too.
I see people walking out of M&S with flowers in hand, young kids being slightly restless because of the long wait, a lone person checking her phone eagerly, countless people lining the railings that surround the arrival area.
And ah, the sweetness of reunion. Faces bursting into grins, that shy, initially-reserved kiss, families running up to greet one another.
They spruced the arrival hall up I believe, it looks brighter, newer, cleaner.
Yay to meeting again after a long period of separation. God knows I need this break & I'm glad it's with my sister yay. :)

♥ Love Wins
Over the past few days, I've been at the receiving end of so many acts of love & generosity. So thankful for the people I do life with here :') It's been quite hectic having to pack 3 years' worth of stuff and vacate the house in just a few days. & having to book and make arrangements for the next few weeks etc etc.
Tonight's the last night all 5 of us are here. Got to do something we haven't done in the longest time, and I think it is the best way to end this journey with them. (:

♥ Hello
After quite a long hiatus, it's kinda hard to think of what exactly to write because so much has happened!
Had the most amazing easter vacation ever, with absolutely no work done. Preparation for finals started later than I would have preferred but considering how much fun we had, ah all's good. A very steep buildup from only seriously starting to study slightly over a week before my first paper, which culminated in the 3-hour final paper of my LLB ever. Spent the next two days running around catching up with friends and flew to Berlin for a short trip.
This trip was kinda different. Didn't really get to see many scenic places but man, many places had so much history behind them, it was really interesting. Weather was gorgeous most of the time, went for a couple of tours, visited a couple of museums, ate food from all over.
I'm back. Took today to just nua and properly get over the exam period. Come back soon everyone!
3 years of law school over! Hasn't exactly hit me yet. But, am thankful for Him seeing me through. (:

♥ Almost May
Less than one month to my first paper. Ohmydays. Still trying to finish up my last two tutorials eeks.
Posted my Part A application today, and went to do groceries, and ended up buying very random stuff, including a can of Yeo's soya bean drink (yay) and some prawn cracker thing. I reckon I must be craving home food haha. And, I came back to a pleasant surprise: His final week in Derby & I get bubble tea yay. It's been less than a month since I first heard of the chatime in derby, and I've already had it thrice (these calories don't count HAHA). (:
Okay, 2 tutorials tmr. But planning to watch ironman 3 with the housemates at the end of the week, talking to a long-time friend on whatsapp, having a pearl milk tea in the fridge... I'm a happy girl. (:

♥ Derby
What.A.Day. (: Satisfied my nando's craving, bought bubble tea that I've wanted for days & finally went to Derby just to walk around. Woke up early - like working crowd early - and caught the bus to Derby. Had breakfast whilst reading the morning paper in a relatively empty mall because it was so early. And shopped in the huge mall the whole morning, again with relative ease because of the time of the day. And that's all I did in the morning whilst killing time. I knew I shouldn't have brought my notes because really, choosing between shopping and studying, ah pretty obvious. Nando's for lunch yay and went to buy bubble tea. So happy that chatime is nearer us now. (:
Gna sleep early and off to the library we go tmr morning. Celebrated Jl's birthday yesterday and we baked a chocolate banana cake which turned out quite nicely. Haha epic fail moment when Jl came down and we couldn't hide all the blatantly obvious cake-ingredients in time, even though we were scurrying around the moment we heard footsteps. :/ Haha, well failed to surprise her two years in a row, but I hope the pretty cakes made up for it. Happy birthday! (:
Haha, I feel like a kid in a toy store. Yes, I'm a really happy girl today. Thank you (:

♥ Easter Break
It's been a really good three weeks of easter holidays. (:
From the random jamming sessions and meals at the dinner table, to having the whole house to myself and trying new recipes. Finishing seasons and seasons of random shows. Having the weirdest dinner-table conversations. Trying new food places around. Badminton & running man & movie nights.
And about 1.5 hours of lecture recordings. Haha.
Very happy & thankful to have been able to spend time with people I love. (: And last week of easter hols, I think I'm ready to start some work whilst still having a fun week. Yay to well-rested breaks. (:
